Keeping Smiles Bright: 4 Ways to Get the Most Out of Your Veneers

Many people get veneers to get the perfect smile they’ve always wanted. This treatment uses thin shells, typically made from porcelain, that can last up to 15 years or longer with the proper care. The durability and reliability of them is what draws so many patients, but how can you ensure you get this full lifespan? Here are four easy tips that you can adopt into your routine.

1.)  Brush Your Teeth Properly

Just like your other teeth, veneers will need to be brushed. This will help remove any bacteria that can cause problems for the natural tooth supporting the shell. Not only that, but you need to make sure you’re gentle when scrubbing. Doing it too aggressively or hardly at all can cause chips or cracks.

You should also use a nonabrasive toothpaste. Certain ingredients can be abrasive, so look for one with the American Dental Association (ADA) Seal of Acceptance to ensure it’s safe for your smile.

2.)  Break Bad Habits

If you tend to use your teeth to open plastic packaging, then you might want to use the right tool for the job instead. When you use your bite, you risk damaging your smile. You might also want to consider quitting any tobacco use. Smoking or chewing it can lead to stains or increase your risk of oral health issues.

3.)  Watch What You Eat

Veneers are very durable, but if you tend to chew on hard candies or ice, then it can cause damage to both the shell and your natural teeth! Try to just suck on them or avoid having them completely. Certain foods can also cause staining. While the material they’re made from is highly resistant, they can become discolored over time. Limit coffee, wine, berries, and tea, or rinse your mouth with water after having them.

4.)  Visit Your Dentist Regularly

In order to keep your veneers going strong for years, visit your dentist consistently. Through regular checkups and cleanings, they can monitor any changes to your oral health while seeing the state of your veneers. They can make sure they are in good condition; that way, you can feel confident knowing your smile is still the best it can be.

Keep these four tips in mind after you get your veneers! They will help you ensure you enjoy them for their full lifespan and get the most out of the treatment. You’ll be able to show off a confident grin for much longer.
